Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (CAKE)
Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange is a joint
project of Island Press and EcoAdapt. It is aimed
at building a shared knowledge base for managing
natural systems in the face of rapid climate
change. It consists principally of 4 interlinked
components – a virtual library, case studies, a
directory, and tools – as well as community forums
for the discussion of current issues in conservation
in a changing climate.
FSC promotes environmentally sound, socially
beneficial and economically prosperous management of
forests. Forest products certified by the FSC have
met a standard for environmental protection.
Sustainable Forestry Initiative
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative has created
standards and certification for sustainable forestry
practices. The web site contains the 2012 progress
report, SFI standards, certification and certified
products as well as conservation research, green
building information, a blog and resources.

USDA National Agriculture Library
This website provides links to AGRICOLA – a
searchable database for article citations on
sustainable forest products from 1995 to present.

The World Resources Institute’s website provides
downloadable documents focused on sustainable
procurement of wood and paper based products. Additional

American Forest and Paper Association
This link to the 2012 Sustainability Report
for the American Forest and Paper Association. The
Association’s goals for sustainability include:
increasing paper recovery for recycling, increase energy
efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promoting
sustainable forestry practices, striving for safe
worksites and exploring ways to reduce water
World Business Council for Sustainable
The WBCSD forest solutions group provides business
leadership in expanding sustainable forest-based
solutions. Forest solution tools include a Wood and
Paper Procurement Guide and a Forest Investment Screen
to screen investments for significant direct and
indirect impacts to forests. There is also a 2050
vision, work program, regional network, publications and
tools and a newsroom on this website.

The Rain Forest Alliance was one of the founders of the
Forest Stewardship Council and this web page discusses
certification, verification and validation, supply chain
services and marketing resources.
Sustainable Forestry and Wood Products
The Northern Forest Center’s web page on sustainable
forestry includes a number of links on topics such as
community forest projects, sustainable innovations to
increase competitiveness, cut-to-length harvesting
techniques and is focused on the northern forests of
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York.
